Drapers Field, Leyton – further update!

Council's proposal for Drapers Field

We have manged to get a look at what has been planned for Drapers Field.

The Masterplan (above) shows that the all weather pitch will be re-sited and there is inclusion of some beach volleyball play areas. Maybe the Council is thinking of re-applying for the £100,000 lottery money that it had to return last year when they made arrangements to give the site to the Olympic Authority for warehousing space for the Olympics.

Below is a closer look at the planned beach volleyball area:

    useful information. It’s really good

This is a good insight of what will happen in the future…
But this is Leyton. No one plays volley ball and no one has ever come to play volley ball in this field.

In the past people have only come to play cricket and football, to skate and relax.
The astroturf was used by schools to play other sports.

I think a place to skate and a grass area to use play any sport is needed.

Investing in areas to play volley ball, is a ridiculous idea because this will be not only a waste of money but also a waste of space.

Totally agree with Naeem. No one in Leyton plays volley ball. A complete waste of money and space. Football and Cricket are the two sports commonly played in the park. Just have a large grass area for people to play whatever sports they want, like it was before.

Furthermore, the location of the new football pitch will be a problem for residents of Gordon Road as it will be noisy during play. Previously, when the old football pitch was located on the opposite end of the field (18,19), you were able to hear the noises coming from it, albeit not much. Imagine now when its right next to Gordon Road.

I live in Leyton.I saw the improvement in the field,I saw the football pitch and all other things in the field. I am writing this to ask when Drapers Field is going to open again?

It’s a great park now, have been living near to the park since 1998. The place wasn’t put to much use for the community. It was put to use at the time of the Olympics. I think that the members of pubic should have the right to use the park and space available.

  6. Ben Jones says:

I know hundreds of people that play volleyball and I’m one of them. Volleyball is actually played extensively in Waltham Forest hence the outdoor court at the Score also. I wish we had more! It’s a really enjoyable sport and a great way to keep fit. The park is a great improvement and was a joy to use in the summer just past.
